Tickover
What should the normal tickover speed be for an RV8? My car runs at at 800rpm, but after stopping there is a slight delay and the revs drop alarmingly down to 200rpm then bounce back to 600rpm. The tickover is then a little erratic and when moving off just as you apply pressure to the throttle the engine goes a bit flat, it never stalls but gets close. Is there any adjustment I can make? Regards

Take a look at RV8 notes Vol 8 no.283, Nigel. You can see that, in all probability, your Stepper motor needs cleaning up. Quite a simple job, quick and usually very rewarding! 800 Rpm is ok by the way because of the airconditioning (if you have it, that is!).

I see that on "Maintenance page 10" of the RV8 Repair Manual AKM7144ENG the controlled idle speed is 700rpm +/- 25rpm. You can get a copy of the CD with the manuals from B&G:

Peter,
Thanks for the advice, problem is fixed and the rpm have settled at just over 600.
I used a Dremel ear plug sized buffer to clean out the housing, there was more carbon in there than on the step motor nipple.
On another note whilst searching around I spotted a note that Range Rovers had a movement sensor on the speedo cable is the same fitted to RV8? Regards Nigel
