Radio Codes
The RV8 Repair Manual, on the Repair section Electrical Repairs page 4 Radio Service repair No. 86.50.03 states that before removal of the radio "Deactivate radio security code".
Unfortunately it does not tell the reader how this deactivation is achieved nor how the code is reactivated after the radio has been replaced.
Can someone please advise me how to undertake this deactivation/activation.

Radio Codes
I think you will find that even if you take out the radio it might still function when you put it back because you didn't mention the word "code." However here are some instructions for you anyway:
To activate the security code keep the "up" button depressed, switch on the radio and wait until a two tone beep sounds. The code is now activated. The word "code" (only the word itself) appears then each time you switch on the radio but only very briefly.
To deactivate:
Depress the "up" button and keeping it depressed, turn on the radio until the word "code" appears. You enter your correct code which are 4 digits all on a card you may have. When the code is deactivated a two tone beep will sound. If you fail to enter the correct code the first time you will have to do it again by re-entering it.
Coming back to the activating stage.
The radio was, right from the start, issued with the 4 digit code together with the unit's serial number - lets hope you still have it!!
My Japanese version did not have a code activated, by the way, and is not cumpulsory unless you're afraid it might get stolen, of course. If the word "code" has never actually appeared in the radio window, there was never one actuated in the first place and the radio will always work even after taking it out!.
When you put back the radio and the word "code" appears permantently in the window, then your code has been lost and it will not work so you must re-enter the 4 digits, as I said above, then the word "code" will appear just for a brief moment and indicates that all is well again.
Hope this is of help! If you have the RV8 owner's handbook, it is all clearly printed out on pages 32 and 33!!

Radio Codes
Many thanks Peter,
I did not want to remove the radio only to find it would not work again when refitted. Unfortunately I do not have the owner's handbook in English - only in Japanese.

Radio Codes
I have scanned the four pages on how to deactivate and then re-enter the security code for the radio which are in the RV8 Owner's Handbook AKM7144ENG and popped them into a PDF document you can download via a rollover link on the following webpage:

Radio Codes
Geoff,
I am not sure from the thread whether you have still got the card with the code for your radio. Today I spotted a webpage on the V8 website I made some time ago which provides a link to MGR C&C Services Ltd which was set up to provide codes, certificates and vehicle data for MG Rover cars. That company was set up as a service on behalf of and with the authority of PwC the Administrators of MG Rover Ltd in Liquidation. I understand the codes they can supply include radio codes. The website is also useful for overseas members needing documentation to enable them to register an RV8 with local vehicle registration authorities.

Radio Codes
Geoff says he only has the hand book in Japanese so I assume he has a Japanese RV8 in which case all this talk of codes is a waste of time as it is not coded!
I have removed many of these (Panasonic) radios with no problems

They don't steal low end radios in Japan.

Radio Codes
Would any member like to offer to draft an RV8NOTE on RV8 radio codes so the useful information from this thread can be kept for future reference in the series as I feel it will be useful for fellow enthusiasts? I can send you a page template in Word format.

Radio Codes
There are also internet sites that offer codes for about £5, or you can try wrapping the radio in three layers of clingfilm and putting it in the freezer overnight, which is said to wipe the code and default to 0000. Not tried it myself, and no liability for damage accepted!
